How do you pursue a Career in Physical Education?

A Career in Physical Education has always intrigued me. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to find information about What Physical Education actually is. Most pages on the internet just talk about How to get into Physical Education. It had been a while since I was researching about a Career in Physical Education, when I came across: https://www.lifepage.in/career/20190615-0001/Others/Fitness/Career-in-Physical-Education/english

Meenakshi's take!

Meenakshi has worked in Physical Education for 39 years & 2 months. Meenakshi has worked in Physical Education as Asst Professor in BDKMV, Agra. In Meenakshi's own words, this is how Meenakshi got into Physical Education: "After finishing the school, I went for my Bachelor's in Physical Education from Laxmibai National College of Physical Education. After graduation, I did my masters in Physical Education and Diploma in Yoga. In 1980, I started my career in teaching physical education in different schools and college's. I represented India in 1982 Asian Games in Delhi and in 1985 in World Games, London. Career Video on Physical Education

In a video, Meenakshi has talked about various aspects of a Career in Physical Education. Meenakshi started by explaining Physical Education as: "Physical Education is "education through the physical". It aims to develop students' physical competence and knowledge of movement and safety, and their ability to use these to perform in a wide range of activities associated with the development of an active and healthy lifestyle." I watched the full video and I absolutely loved it.

I found the video unique because it talked about Education in terms of things which can be learnt from books, to excel at a Career in Physical Education and not as a list of Qualifications, which one needs to get into Physical Education. Meenakshi touches upon these in the Education section of the Video:
  • History of Physical Education
  • Corrective Physical Education
  • Theory of Games
  • Test & Measurement
  • Sports Psychology
  • Physiology
  • Anatomy
Sills and success goes hand in hand. One needs to get a hold of essential skills.
Meenakshi then explains why these Skills are essential for a Career in Physical Education:
  • Observation Skills
  • Field Management
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Communication
  • Sportsmanship
  • Outspoken
  • Physical Fitness
It is important to get an understanding of the Positives of this Career.
Meenakshi believes that the following are some of the Positives of a Career in Physical Education:
  • Exposure
  • Societal Impact
  • Respect & Recognition
  • Immense Satisfaction
After a discussion on Positives, Challenges complete the caricature of a Career.
And, Meenakshi believes that one needs to prepare for following Challenges of a Career in Physical Education:
  • Space Issues
  • Lack of Awareness
  • Harsh Environment
  • Funding Issues
  • Male Dominated Profession
